WHAT IS “AMERICAN MADE”?
Thank you for your interest in doing business with us at Charleston Billiards and Cue Company, Inc., the Low Country’s exclusive dealer for Olhausen Billiard Manufacturing, Inc. and the area’s leading retailer of pool cues, pool tables, shuffleboards, and game room supplies. Charleston Billiards was founded in 1998 by Dennis M. Rash of Charleston (now celebrating our 25th year in business), and he has owned and operated the store since that time. We perform expert in-store pool cue repairs, and we also offer a complete menu of expert pool table repairs and services including setting up and relocating tables and replacing the cushions and the cloth on pool tables.
At Charleston Billiards, we feel that it has never been more important to buy American Made than it is today, especially when buying a pool table. We believe that it is critical to support our nation’s economy and to support the few true American manufacturers that remain in this country. Olhausen Billiards, located in Portland, Tennessee, just a three-rail kick shot south of the Kentucky state line, builds the finest in American made pool tables and is #1 in worldwide pool table sales for the home market.
Olhausen is a true American manufacturer and builds a complete line of more than 50 models of pool tables in their state-of-the-art 250,000 square foot manufacturing facility. They construct their tables using time-honored methods of structural superiority. They build their frames using their patented Uniliner or cross-braced fortification with matched and backed sets of over-sized premium slate bolted directly to the frames, and their rails are bolted directly to the slate. You simply can not make a pool table any stronger or more solid.
They construct their tables using select American grown woods like Northern Red Oak, North American Maple, Southern Knotty Pine, Southern Hickory, and Premium Appalachian Cherry which is among the most prized of furniture grade hardwoods. They use wooden feather strips and 100% gum rubber cushions devoid of cheap fillers like silica and clay that are used on most other pool tables.
Olhausen pool tables feature Accu-Fast cushions and have a lifetime warranty – not only on the cabinetry and the rails – but, most importantly a lifetime replacement warranty on the cushion rubber. This feature is absolutely unique in the billiards industry.
In addition to using shoddy cushion rubber which will crack or harden over time, most non-American manufacturers use cheap plastic or rubber feather strips which shrink or wear over time allowing the cloth to come loose from the tops of the rails. They make extensive use of non-wood materials in their construction which are painted or laminated to look like wood and represent them as solid oak, mahogany, or other fine woods when they are not.
These off-shore tables, as they are known within the billiards industry, generally use un-backed slate and employ various methods of blocking for attaching the slate to their non-standard cabinets. Their poor cabinet bracing makes it very difficult if not impossible to level the slate. In essence, the slate is not attached directly to the cabinet which causes increased vibration and generally poorer stability and play. If you doubt this information, ask someone who has bought one of these tables – and then, ask someone who owns an Olhausen.
PLEASE, BUY QUALITY! – BUY AMERICAN! – SUPPORT THE U.S. ECONOMY!
